Neil Merry is joining us at the Causeway, he tells us a little about himself..
I grew up in Drybrook and went to Dene Magna Community School spending most of my younger days playing football and cricket for Ruardean Hill alongside my Uncle and Grandfather who was club umpire.
About 20 years ago I moved to Merthyr Tydfil and continued to play football with clubs including Cwmbran Celtic and Merthyr Saints at the young old age of 45! I still try my best and play alongside first team manager Matthew for Penydarren 040’s.
September of this year I married my partner Johanna and now live with my wife and our 2 daughters Tia and Ella in Merthyr Tydfil. Obviously the Forest of Dean will always have a special place in my heart and all my family still live in Drybrook and Cinderford, so to be offered the opportunity to be assistant manger of the reserves and work alongside Rich at my home town club was an opportunity too good to turn down. Most of my family are Cinderford Town fans who travel home and away, my cousin Julian Symonds lives and breathes the club!
It’s a new chapter in my life and to be part of such a big club which is moving in the right direction and has big plans for the future is a real pleasure.
There will be challenging times to come, but I’m excited to get going and work hard alongside Rich to bring on the reserve team and help the younger boys with my experience which will then act as a support role to feed the 1st team
